EGU25 General Assembly – Sessions organized & Presentations by COMPASS team members

April 27 - May 2

The General Assembly 2025 of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) was held at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) in Vienna, Austria and online, from 27 April–2 May 2025. The assembly was open to the scientists of all nations. The congress centre was wheelchair accessible. The EGU General Assembly 2025 brought together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. The EGU aimed to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, could present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.

SESSIONS ORGANIZED BY COMPASS TEAM MEMBERS

Dr. Dominik Paprotny, Researcher at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and member of COMPASS team, was one of the conveners of the session “HS2.4.2 PICO: Space-time dynamics of flood risk: processes, controls, and attribution“.

Martha Marie Vogel, Technical Adviser at Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre and member of COMPASS team, was one of the conveners of the sessions “NH1.1 Extreme heat: processes, vulnerability, impacts and response in a warming climate“, “NH10.4 The convergence of Disasters, Diseases, and Health impacts” and “SPM38 Using conceptual models to inform risk storylines: a collaborative workshop“.

Dr. Anaïs Couasnon, Researcher at Deltares and member of COMPASS team, was one of the conveners of the sessions “ITS2.1/CL0.1 Compound weather and climate events” and “NH10.1 Multi-(hazard) risk assessments: Innovative approaches for disaster risk reduction, management, and climate change adaptation“.

PRESENTATIONS BY COMPASS TEAM MEMBERS

Doris Vertegaal, Researcher at Deltares and member of COMPASS team, presented the project with an oral presentation entitled “Storyline climate attribution for compound flooding from tropical cyclone Idai in Mozambique“, during the session “CL3.2.4 High-impact climate extremes: from physical understanding and storylines to impacts and solutions“.

Dr. Dominik Paprotny, Researcher at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and member of COMPASS team, presented the project with a poster entitled “Impact attribution of European floods: towards an operational system“, during the session “NH1.4 Mapping of climate to flood extremes“.

Linn Hamester, Researcher at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and member of COMPASS team, presented the project with a poster entitled “Landfalling Tropical Cyclones: Investigating Rainfall Trends under Climate Change“, during the session “NH11.2 Future Changes in Weather and Climate Hazards around the World“.

Dr. Paweł Terefenko, Professor at Institute of Marine and Environmental Sciences of the University of Szczecin (IMES US) and member of COMPASS team, presented the project during the “Annual Meeting of EU-funded Multi-(Hazard-)Risk projects“.
