SUMMARY:EGU26 General Assembly - Sessions organized by COMPASS team members
DESCRIPTION:The European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2026 is one of the largest international conferences in the geosciences\, bringing together thousands of researchers from across the world to present and discuss the latest advances in Earth\, climate and environmental sciences. The annual meeting provides an important platform for interdisciplinary exchange and science–policy dialogue. \nDr. Dominik Paprotny (COMPASS partner) is convening a dedicated session at the upcoming European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2026: \nSession title: Space-time dynamics of flood risk: processes\, controls\, and attributionSession code: HS2.4.6Session type: PICO (Presenting Interactive COntent) \nThis session explores the complex spatial and temporal patterns of flood risk\, highlighting key processes\, controlling factors\, and methods for flood risk attribution. It has been well-attended in recent years and brings together researchers working on flood hazard\, impacts\, adaptation and attribution to share novel findings in an interactive poster format. \n📅 Abstract submission deadline: 15 January 2026🔗 Session details & submission: https://www.egu26.eu/session/55915

SUMMARY:Copernicus Climate Change Service 8th General Assembly
DESCRIPTION:ECMWF holded its 8th General Assembly of the Copernicus Climate Change Service between 2-4 June in Valencia\, Spain. General Assembly was a possibility to connect with your fellow C3S service providers as well as with representatives of EU institutions and agencies\, stakeholders and finally ECMWF’s partner organisations. During the meeting the COMPASS project was presented to a wide spectrum of researchers\, data providers and end users\, providing an ideal opportunity to share and discuss current results of the project. \nDr. Paweł Terefenko\, Professor at Institute of Marine and Environmental Sciences of the University of Szczecin (IMES US) and member of COMPASS team\, presented the project with a poster entitled “An automated workflow for downscaling and bias-adjustment of CDS datasets”. \nThe poster is available here. \n

SUMMARY:EGU25 General Assembly - Sessions organized & Presentations by COMPASS team members
DESCRIPTION:The General Assembly 2025 of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) was held at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) in Vienna\, Austria and online\, from 27 April–2 May 2025. The assembly was open to the scientists of all nations. The congress centre was wheelchair accessible. The EGU General Assembly 2025 brought together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth\, planetary\, and space sciences. The EGU aimed to provide a forum where scientists\, especially early career researchers\, could present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience. \n\nSESSIONS ORGANIZED BY COMPASS TEAM MEMBERS \nDr. Dominik Paprotny\, Researcher at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and member of COMPASS team\, was one of the conveners of the session “HS2.4.2 PICO: Space-time dynamics of flood risk: processes\, controls\, and attribution“. \n        \n  \nMartha Marie Vogel\, Technical Adviser at Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre and member of COMPASS team\, was one of the conveners of the sessions “NH1.1 Extreme heat: processes\, vulnerability\, impacts and response in a warming climate“\, “NH10.4 The convergence of Disasters\, Diseases\, and Health impacts” and “SPM38 Using conceptual models to inform risk storylines: a collaborative workshop“. \n   \n    \n  \nDr. Anaïs Couasnon\, Researcher at Deltares and member of COMPASS team\, was one of the conveners of the sessions “ITS2.1/CL0.1 Compound weather and climate events” and “NH10.1 Multi-(hazard) risk assessments: Innovative approaches for disaster risk reduction\, management\, and climate change adaptation“. \n \n\nPRESENTATIONS BY COMPASS TEAM MEMBERS \nDoris Vertegaal\, Researcher at Deltares and member of COMPASS team\, presented the project with an oral presentation entitled “Storyline climate attribution for compound flooding from tropical cyclone Idai in Mozambique“\, during the session “CL3.2.4 High-impact climate extremes: from physical understanding and storylines to impacts and solutions“. \nDr. Dominik Paprotny\, Researcher at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and member of COMPASS team\, presented the project with a poster entitled “Impact attribution of European floods: towards an operational system“\, during the session “NH1.4 Mapping of climate to flood extremes“. \nLinn Hamester\, Researcher at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and member of COMPASS team\, presented the project with a poster entitled “Landfalling Tropical Cyclones: Investigating Rainfall Trends under Climate Change“\, during the session “NH11.2 Future Changes in Weather and Climate Hazards around the World“. \nDr. Paweł Terefenko\, Professor at Institute of Marine and Environmental Sciences of the University of Szczecin (IMES US) and member of COMPASS team\, presented the project during the “Annual Meeting of EU-funded Multi-(Hazard-)Risk projects“. \n    \n    \n  \n
